For the second race in succession, Red Bull Racing screwed Daniel Ricciardo over, taking a guaranteed victory away by idiotic behavior on the pit lane.
Ricciardo was raging at his team after a botched tyre change cost him the Monaco Grand Prix. The lightening fast Aussie was in control of the race when he was called into the pits on lap 32. A miscommunication between Red Bull’s engineers and mechanics meant Ricciardo was sitting idle in the pits waiting for his tyres to arrive.
“Two weekends in a row now I’ve been screwed. It sucks. It hurts.” ~ Daniel Ricciardo
Are Red Bull losing the plot?
With the best chassis on the grid, coupled with an upgraded engine that allows them to take the fight to Mercedes, Red Bull have committed two major errors in recent races, preventing Ricciardo from gaining on championship leader Nico Rosberg.
Just two weeks ago in Spain, Ricciardo’s engineers fucked up a guaranteed victory when they split their two drivers’ strategies, gifting Max Verstappen his first win. Ricciardo was fuming after that incident, but bounced back perfectly in Monaco with blistering pace all weekend.
“I didn’t make the call, I got called,” he said. “They should have been ready. It hurts. I don’t have anything else to say to be honest.” ~ Ricciardo in his post-race interview in Monaco
When Ricciardo left the pits in Monaco after the nightmare tyre change, broadcasters had to lay the bleeper on his radio after he lambasted his team’s poor performance. Ricciardo fought in vein as championship rival Lewis Hamilton pulled away to victory in the world’s most famous race.
Reports claim Ricciardo is starting to lose faith in his beloved Red Bull team, and with the open seat at Ferrari looking a possibility next season, Ricciardo is seriously considering a move to Maranello.
