Who knew Nico Rosberg’s struggles with Lewis Hamilton could prove to be somewhat triggering for the Spaniard?

Rosberg recently lost his championship lead to the Briton after he was bested in the Hungarian GP. It’s been a series of losses to this point, two of which involved crashes after both drivers battled for supremacy. Their contentious relations are churning up some unpleasant recollections for Fernando Alonso, who has had his own quarrels with Hamilton. Back when he was teammates with Hamilton in McLaren, he’d been penalised for blocking the Briton in the pits, forcing him to miss his final flying lap. Alonso ended up having to relinquish pole position to Hamilton.

So it isn’t surprising that Alonso can barely suppress a shudder at the way things are playing out this season.

“Yeah, it reminds me of things as well. Let’s say Rosberg doesn’t have an easy teammate.

“In that sense, he’s very strong on track, very fast, he never makes a mistake.

“And off the track, he has significant influence. Good luck to Rosberg with that! *cue laughter*

“He can’t make a mistake anywhere because apart from being one of the best in the world, he can feel the pressure off the track as well.”

Damn. With enemies like that, who needs… well, why don’t you just give up already? Hamilton’s insanely talented, meticulous and driving with the flames of rivalry blazing directly beneath his arse. You’d think he’s exactly the sort of man you want on your team, but we’re now seeing that he’s more like a supernova of a personality with incredible destructive power. And right now, hapless Rosberg is directly in his path.

Poor Nico Rosberg, with his princely upbringing and impeccable manners. Could he truly stand against the force Lewis Hamilton can be when properly incensed? Alonso seems to doubt it and we confess, we do kind of see his point.
