Five races have now elapsed, and only the most ardent cynics now remain dismissive of Ford’s chances when it comes to attaining glory in November. With a fast car, the oft-overlooked manufacturer has a real contender in second-placed Brad Keselowski this year in NASCAR.
Sadly, for the lovers of an underdog triumph, the summit of the table is currently occupied by a driver of Chevrolet – the monopolising manufacturer of NASCAR. But therein lies another potential shock, as the driver in question is Kyle Larson.
Larson is currently in Group B of every fantasy NASCAR game in existence. However, Larson’s promotion to Group A, in 2018, will become a very real prospect if he maintains his current hot streak until (at least) the playoffs.
Ironically, he has yet to actually ensure his place in the playoffs with a victory. He was once again heroic on Sunday at the Camping World 500, scalping a third consecutive finish of second to open up a six-point lead at the top.
Autoclub 400 Fantasy Picks – GROUP A
Kevin Harvick is once again proving a very popular starter, with a whopping 61% of managers selecting the 2014 champion. This is remarkable, considering that Harvick’s early results have undulated violently in the early stages of this season. His last win in this event also came in 2011.
That noted, he is a safe option for the reserve berth, and his inclusion offers insurance against the voice of the majority.
Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski are neck and neck when it comes to popularity. However, the latter driver is in irresistible form right now, and boasts the early momentum.
Kyle Larson starts. That is all.
With its low banks and longer distance, the Autoclub Speedway demands the greatest concentration and confidence, this weekend will really test the credentials of early high-flyers such as Kyle Larson.
To get you in the mood, relive this great finish from 2011, when Kevin Harvick came back from the proverbial dead to beat a dominant Kyle Busch to victory lane!
