The Italian GP was elevated entertainment-wise last weekend by some weird, dejected, angry, and almost psychopathic radio transmissions during the race at Monza. Here are five of the best.
5.
Button: “Yer well, that was definitely forcing me off the circuit by the Sauber…”
Sauber had a terrible first lap, both drivers involved in one form of squeezing or the other. Jenson manages to retain his casual tone whilst oscillating through gravel at 150kph… This incident with Ericsson put him at the back of the grid, he recovered to overtake his team-mate Alonso.
4.
McLaren: “Fernando, three laps to go after this one, we are happy to make the stop if you wish…”
Alonso: “Box!”
Do you think he was fed up with the tyres he was on? Nando didn’t even wait for the radio transmission from the team to finish before announcing that he’d be coming in. This was towards the end of the race and allowed Alonso to set the fastest lap of the Grand Prix on fresh rubber with low-fuel.
3.
Manor: “So comments on balance please from that last run?”
Wehrlein: “I don’t like it.”
During practice as Manor looked for feedback on amended set-up. Not quite the feedback the team would have been looking for! More front-wing? Less? Just keep tweaking until he says he likes it.
2.
Hamilton: “Don’t worry about the start, it was my fault.”
Moments after the sluggish getaway, Hamilton takes the blame for the poor start over radio. He’s shifted his position since, admitting that he followed normal start procedure. Tin foil hats donned…
1.
McLaren: “You need to keep your pace up because Grosjean might come back to us…”
Alonso: “Ah ha ha ha!”

The transcript doesn’t do Alonso’s evil laugh any justice. It belongs in a Hitchcock movie. Sinister chuckles that will no doubt haunt his race engineer for the coming weeks.
