Everyone’s favorite punching bag these days in the world of golf, Tiger Woods, took time Tuesday following a practice round to meet with members of the media and answer questions from reporters.
In case you didn’t know, Tiger sits at 195th in the world rankings. If he plays poorly this week, he would almost certainly tumble into the 200s.
Here’s some snippets of Tiger’s remarks from Tuesday.
Tiger on Swing Progress
“This year certainly has been a struggle. But for me to go through what I went through at Torrey [withdrawal] and Phoenix [missed cut], to come back and do what I did at Augusta gave me a lot of confidence going forward.”
If you recall, the last time we saw Tiger Woods was two weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament, where he shot a third-round 85 and finished the tournament at 302, 14 over par – his worst 72-hole score.
‘Things are Starting to Come Together’
“Sometimes you have to make a shift, and I did. Short-term suffering for long-term gain. I’ve done this before. When I’ve made changes in the past, I’ve struggled through it. I’ve come out on the good side.
“I had to make those. It’s more of a commitment than anything else. I had to make a commitment and I have. And things are starting to come together piece by piece. All the big change is already in and now it’s just refining it and actually now playing more golf, playing more tournament golf.”
Woods has not finished among the top 10 since late 2013 and has no finish in 2015 better than his tie for 17th at the Masters.
“I’ve Won Three of These”
The best clip for last. Tiger was at his best, trolling a reporter who asked him why he feels confident heading into the U.S. Open given his recent form. Watch from the master:
