Rory McIlroy hasn’t gotten off to the greatest start this year. Out of the four tournaments he’s played in 2016, he has missed one cut and only twice did he make it into the top 25.
Rory is only one major away from making the grand slam. He has said multiple times that he wants to make it into that elite club of slammers, and take back the number one title.
After a rough debut to the season Rory realized to make it back on top (although still 3rd in the world), he needs to make changes, and that’s exactly what he’s doing. He said in a press conference before this weeks tournament at Doral, that he has been practicing switching his grip up when he putts. A lot of golfers have made the switch, using their non dominant hand as the dominant one when putting.
Ernie Els and Adam Scott have both made changes in their putting techniques this year for different reasons, but both have been successful. Els wanted to get rid of his yips and Scott had to throw away his long putters. By changing up his putter grip, I believe he can only benefit.
Here is Rory’s full explanationg as to why he’s making the change during the press conference before Cadillac Championship.
