Bayern Munich are already planning for life under Carlo Ancelotti, with rumours today suggesting that the Bundesliga giants are looking to sign Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
It makes sense that Bayern would be linked – and interested in – the top players across Europe but would it make sense for Arsenal to cash in on their £35million buy?
Style Of Play – Statistics
Free-kick specialist, something Arsenal haven’t had since the distant days of Thierry Henry, but is that trait enough to warrant Arsenal cashing in on their supposed talisman?
Sanchez’s tendency to ‘hog’ the ball is reflected in his low pass completion rate, with the Chilean tending to release the ball too late having worked himself into a corner. Arsenal are a side that rely on a fine passing game, and having Sanchez flirting with the 70s for success rate isn’t ideal for the Gunners – Giroud’s is 68% but that’s for another time!
Sanchez leads the way on total number of shots and successful take-ons, two areas that the Gunners need to improve their all-round play on as a team. So the former Barcelona forward certainly adds something that this current Wenger team lacks drastically.
The issue is, though, that Sanchez doesn’t really have a filter when it comes to taking shots and attempting take-ons…
…barely over 50% success rate of hitting the target and/or taking on a player, the consistency just isn’t there from the striker.
It was a similar story for the striker at Barcelona, with his inconsistency in front of goal and poor decision-making in the final third infruriating Gerardo Martino and the Catalunya faithful, hence the Chilean’s bit-part role at the Nou Camp and eventual sale.
It will be a bold, bold call from Le Professeur if he were to sell the Arsenal man – and he certainly won’t be doing that – but everything about Arsenal is stale; they need a few shocks to the system.
