Londoners have today announced their delight at West Ham United leaving the Upton Park area. With their game against Manchester United completing the Hammers’ home fixtures for this season.
“Good riddance, I say. Everyone in the area is chuffed.
“We don’t want to home thousands of grown men blowing bubbles and acting like eating pie and mash for breakfast is an acceptable thing.”
Local Resident, D Levy
The comments will no doubt anger supporters of the claret and blue, who will cite the club’s 1999 Intertoto Cup success and Mark Noble’s passing statistics as reasons why they’ve been nothing but a positive for the community.
It adds further fuel to the fire following London Council’s refusal to keep Upton Park open as a public football stadium. Many of the Hammers fanbase were hoping that the ‘Chicken Run’ would remain in tact so they could continue their search for the ‘West Ham way’ despite it never existing.
The Irons will begin the 2016/17 season at the Olympic Stadium after the tax payers decided to club together and pay for the Hammers new home. Clearly in a generous mood, the taxpayers have also said “they’ll see what they can do” with regards to Slaven Bilic’s transfer wish list.
David Gold and David Sullivan are yet to decide which former players will be idolised with statues outside their new ground. However, Samassi Abou and Benni McCarthy are the early frontrunners for the accolade.
