How one club change helped Dustin Johnson become a winner

Dustin Johnson has been a force to reckon with off the tee. He is currently the Tour leader in average distance to the hole after his tee shot (157.6 yards) and second on Tour in driving distance (312.5 yards). DAMN.

Clearly something is working with Johnson’s driver and surprisingly that’s the one club he’s changed throughout the season.

He started off the season using TaylorMade’s M1 driver and then began using the M2 model from the Northern Trust Open until the WGC-Cadillac Championship. He switched because the M2 has a more forgiving nature with a softer feel and according to the PGA Tour he saw distance gains when tested on a launch motor.

After only two events Johnson switched back to the hard hitting M1 and it’s been working for him ever since. Combine the driver gains, consistent short game, and his putting skills coming together and Dustin Johnson has found the formula for success.

He was recently named No. 1 in the Olympic Mens Golf Ranking and he’s moved up to No. 3 in the World with the win of the U.S. Open and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him move to No. 1 in the World fairly soon if he keeps pushing on like he has.

Watch out Jason Day, Dustin Johnson is itching for your title.
