LA Galaxy should be thankful that Robbie Keane is gone

It was a massive week for the LA Galaxy, not in terms of winning, but it was a huge week for getting rid of the deadweight in their organization. Think spring cleaning in November.

Earlier in the week, Steven Gerrard left the club and yesterday Robbie Keane did the same. Thank God.

Despite most LA Galaxy fans believing that Robbie Keane was the Irish Godsend (save that for Conor McGregor), it is a blessing to get rid of him and his salary off the books. Keane was a clinical finisher, no doubt, but his place in the starting XI will open up opportunities for the club.

Age, injuries, and international duty prevented the former Irish international from making more than 24 appearances in 2015 and just 17 appearances in 2016. The Galaxy need a striker that is able to play week in and week out and have that same production of Keane early in his MLS career.

5 players that the Galaxy should buy:

Robbie Keane is the best Designated Player in the history of the league (for now). But for the love of Lucky Charms, Keane was replaced by Alan Gordon at the end of the season and he did a fine job. The Galaxy played arguably better football with Gordo than they did with Keane. Shouts out to the Bash Bros.

Although this forces the Galaxy into making some major moves in the offseason, the club will be better prepared for the future by getting rid of their aging England and Irish “stars”. Younger players will be the main focus for the Galaxy who are now left with just one Designated Player, Gio Dos Santos.

With Gyasi Zardes returning from injury, players need to be brought in who work well with Gio as he will be the catalyst of the team after regaining some of that form from this early career when he didn’t party so much. Fortunately the Galaxy, money ain’t a thing. Let the spending commence.
