As the 2017 World Championship enters its second week, the pressure is starting to mount on a number of tournament debutants. For Immortals’ Cody “Cody Sun” Sun, the tense moments against Fnatic proved to be too much.
With his team’s back against the wall, World Championship rookie Cody Sun committed one of the biggest mistakes of the tournament so far, simultaneously flashing into his death whilst gifting Fnatic yet another kill on his jungler, Jake “Xmithie” Puchero.
With both barrier and flash available, it is possible that the stress of the moment caused Cody Sun to disastrously misclick flash rather than his barrier summoner spell – only Cody Sun himself will be able to explain the moment of madness.
As it transpired, the AD carry’s actions provided the worst possible combination as Xmithie’s mana-less Ezreal was soon confronted by FNC mid laner, Rasmus “Caps” Winther, whose Cassiopeia made light work of the fleeing Immortals newcomer.
A significant moment in the narrative of Group B, Cody Sun’s ‘throw’ against Fnatic balances the scale between the two Western representatives, given that it was FNC captain and AD carry, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, who had gifted Immortals their first win of the tournament in the opening week.
Buoyed by their pick on Immortals’ carries, Fnatic would soon end the game in dramatic fashion.
From such a comfortable position after the opening week, Immortals are now faced with the prospect of missing out on the quarterfinals.
