Conor McGregor has been known to make outlandish and outrageous claims. His mouth pumps up his supporters and angers his detractors, enlarging his brand. You may not always agree with him, but you will listen to him. These are McGregor’s most outrageous claims.
“I’m half black below the waist”
McGregor came under fire for comments some deemed racist about Floyd Mayweather, but according to the Irishman, that’s simply not the case. “A lot of the media seem to be saying I’m against black people,” he said. “That’s absolutely f****** ridiculous. Do they not know I’m half black? I’m half black from the belly button down.” The comments, which were followed by some suggestive dancing, were certainly headline-worthy.
“Eighteen fights in the UFC, or 17, I don’t even know, and the m**********r couldn’t even get off Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg rang and tried to get that man off Facebook. Nobody cares about him.”
McGregor spit out this gem about Cole Miller in 2013. We assume they’re not Facebook friends.
“You Will Be Dismantled and Killed”
Prior to the announcement of his fight with Mayweather, McGregor ruffled some feathers when he posted the following message along with a video of him training. “Not much will change when I fight under the famed, yet very limited, Queensbury rules. No disrespect to single discipline fighters, from boxing to kicking to grappling, just know that understanding one style of fighting is simply not enough. You are lying to yourself. You are easily dismantled in a true fight. A fight with no rules to protect you. In a straight fight, you do not possess enough tools to keep you alive. You will be dismantled and killed.” No one will ever claim McGregor lacks confidence.
“I didn’t have money before this. I was collecting 188 Euro a week off the social welfare. And now here I am, with like 60 G’s bonus and then my own pay. I don’t know what the F’s going on to be honest, right?”
McGregor has not been shy about his rise from poverty. He really did “start from the bottom”.
“He’s a quiet, little hillbilly from the back arse of nowhere. His cousin is probably named Cletus.”
Ouch. McGregor threw this jab in at Dustin Poirier ahead of his UFC 178 fight. He can smack talk with the best of them.
“I am cocky in prediction. I am confident in preparation, but I am always humble in victory or defeat.”
McGregor spit this instant classic at the UFC 178 post-fight press conference. Put this one on a poster.
“I didn’t even grapple to get a brown belt! I must be the best brown belt on Earth!”
McGregor made this comment following his UFC 178 win over Poirier in which he was his brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
“These custom-made suits aren’t cheap. This solid gold pocket watch, three people died making this watch. I need to put people away. I need those big fights. I’m going to end up in debt pretty fast.”
You need to make money to spend it — bring on Mayweather.
“There’s two things I really like to do and that’s whoop ass and look good. I’m doing one of them right now and on Saturday night, I’m doing the other.”
Apparently “Pretty Boy Floyd” has some competition both in the ring and out of it.
“We’re not just here to take part — we’re here to take over.”
McGregor has proved he’s more than a big talker. If you can back it up, no one should take issue.
