For Conor McGregor, controversy and success go hand in hand. And while we all patiently wait for a possible bout with reigning champ Floyd Mayweather, Conor is keeping himself busy with a few acting gigs in the meantime. Watch him star in a hilarious series of commercials for the Pegasus World Cup Invitational.
As fans, we’re definitely used to a certain type of Conor McGregor persona. You know the, shit talking, in your face, troublemaker we all kind of hate to love. Something like this:
But he’s showing a different (and funnier) side to himself in an actually pretty entertaining string of commercials called the “13th Jockey” directed by Frank Coraci for the Pegasus World Cup Invitational. If this feels kind of random, that’s because it is. After some digging, apparently this invitational is all about money (now things are starting to make sense). The $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational will be held at Gulfstream Park on January 28th and will surpass the Dubai World Cup as the world’s richest Thoroughbred race. The event is restricted to a dozen horses that will compete for the record-setting $12 million purse. That’s right, $12 million big ones. Money and McGregor, now things seem about right.
The 13th Jockey series starts with an announcement by Conor, followed by very unorthodox training methods that then leads to him riding a horse bareback AND naked. I’d imagine based on the size of the actual prize, he more than likely got paid a pretty penny to do these commercial series. Watch all 3 installments below:
We get to see McGregor make his jockeying debut in the final episode of the series, which will air on the NBC race day broadcast on January 28th. After that, who knows what’s in store for him. Just about anything is possible at this point.
