MMA fighter Yoel Romero started a GoFundMe page for medical expenses and retirement for his upcoming opponent Michael Bisping. Romero believes that he will absolutely destroy him and he will need all the help he can get.
Smack talk before a fight is nothing new. It provides fuel for the fight and keeps the fighters names in the sports headlines to gain interest for the event. But there has been a stark contrast in the usual witty banter of Connor McGregor and his upcoming opponent to what we have seen here. It started with a total lack of self-awareness and quickly went down the toilet and has certainly made its mark.
GoFundMe is usually reserved for people who are in desperate need of money. The idea is that people who are in real need can post their story and how much they are trying to raise and strangers can join the cause and easily give as much as they can. Romero doing this as a stunt has made people very angry. His publicist should have thought of this or at least someone in his camp should have stopped him.
My husband has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal Metastatic Melanoma and we have a fundraiser page to raise money for his medical bills, our family bills etc for him, myself and our 3 kids and u use this as a joke. Go fuck yourself.
Stacy Brumhead, comment on Romero’s GoFundMe page
It is entirely possible that Romero didn’t have much help with this. English is his second language and the opening paragraph of the page suggests that Romero was not working with a publicist while he typed it out.
This is Mike, he will be needing money to survive after me and him meet in the octagon approximately May of 2017.
Yoel Romero’s opening line on the GoFundMe page
It gets even dumber.
A few days ago Bisping tweeted out a promo for his radio show while slamming Romero. Romero tweeted back and ended up calling into Bisping’s radio show where he shouted through a distorted phone line in broken English. It sounds like he yells “come fight me” a bunch of times. Bisping responded by calling him “Poopypants.” And it’s kind of true. Romero pooped his pants once during a fight.

A few years ago Romero fought Brunson in UFC 35. Through Romero’s purple shorts it does seem that there is a giant brownish skid mark that could be the result of bowel extrication. Romero later claimed it was just water.
The immaturity on display with both of these guys screams of grade school bullying, whether it be name calling or cyber bullying. After this fight is over maybe both “men” should enroll in an anti-bullying course to prove even the hardest headed bullies can change their ways.
Or maybe they just keep it classy and shart off. Whatever draws more fans.
