Sports and politics. Intersections between the two are many. Most directly, a number of athletes who have excelled in sports have gone on to careers in politics.
Opening a string of car dealerships or taking a sitting behind a microphone in a low-level announcing job is certainly an easier road to hoe and the more common path. However, a few standouts from inside the lines have made careers in the halls of power. And it’s not that surprising, right? After all, politics is the ultimate bloodsport.
From the state level all the way to the whitewashed buildings of Washington D.C., pro athletes have populated the political sphere.

Rasheed Wallace
"Ball don't lie!" Is really the only quote you need to know when talking about my man Sheed. Also here's a YouTube video of him performing more of his antics. (Source: Twitter) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iQPhRMC3qo
Nick Young
If I was an NBA executive, I would never want Nick Young on my team because he's a clown, but as a fan of basketball and entertainment, I love Swaggy P. He's like J.R. Smith, just a fun loving dude who loves to chuck up stupid jump shots, and party in his spare time. What's not to love? (Source: Twitter)
JaVale McGee
Gotta give credit to JaVale, he's having a nice season with Golden State. But besides having a nice season, there will be times (and there have been) where he does something on the basketball court that makes you shake your head, and gets him on Shaqtin' A Fool, causing him to get in a Twitter beef with Shaq. All in a days work for JaVale McGee. (Source: Twitter)
J.R. Smith
I love everything about J.R. Smith, and glad he won an NBA title, even if it was with Lebron. The dude is living out my dream of getting paid millions to come off the bench and shoot an absurd amount of contested 3 pointers, and getting stupid drunk at unnecessary times. Never change J.R. Smith, never change. (Source: Twitter)
Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley is a national treasure, and would do sick and twisted things to hang out with him. He's mostly known for his work as an analyst on TNT, but Chuck was an awesome player who was never afraid to speak his mind. He's had many outrageous quotes during his playing days, and days as an analyst, and I don't see them stopping any time soon, which I'm more than okay with. (Source: Twitter)
