After saying his farewell to Fnatic and his career as a professional player – Bora “Yell0wstaR” Kim now faces a period of reflection ahead of his next challenge. To celebrate his astonishing contribution to the professional eSports scene, we have compiled five of Yell0wstaR’s most iconic moments within the game, spanning his six seasons as a veteran of European League of Legends.
5. A Classic Yell0wstaR Engage
If you're searching for a play that emphasises Yell0wstaR's decisive playmaking ability then frankly you're spoilt for choice. The Fnatic support's ability to turn a fight on its head is legendary, regardless of the champion he's playing. In this dramatic example, Fnatic are playing on the back foot, retreating from a fight - before, in an instant, Yell0wstaR makes the call to turn and blows up the enemy team with a devastating three-man Annie stun.
4. Ashe Arrow Sniper
Those who have followed the journey of the retiring Fnatic captain will know that in his early days of competitive League of Legends, Yell0wstaR was a potent AD Carry. In this iconic clip, Yell0w fires off a hail mary Ashe arrow from way downtown... the mid lane in this instance. Travelling over half of Summoners Rift before reaching its destination, Yell0wstaR perfectly snipes Janna, allowing for his teammates to clean up and secure the game. Clutch play.
3. Xpeke Backdoors SK Gaming
It is perhaps the single most iconic clip of competitive League of Legends eSports. Xpeke's backdoor against SK Gaming is an endeared moment, immortalised in Fnatic's history, alongside Yell0wstaR. In the grudge match between the two European heavyweights, referred to as El Clasico, the Fnatic mid laner's miraculous juking on Kassadin sealed the win in the most dramatic of styles, sparking wild celebrations from Yell0w and the Fnatic roster. The overwhelming portrayal of joy certainly makes these images one of Yell0wstaR's most iconic moments.
2. The Classic Thresh Fail
What separated Yell0wstaR from the rest of the pack was has ability to call the shots for his team and make decisive macro plays. On some occasions however, even with a strong play in mind, Yell0w's mechanical prowess wasn't quite up to scratch. A classic clip from the early days of the LCS, Yell0wstaR experiences what is commonly described in Bronze V as 'brain lag'. Even the Fnatic man himself looks back on this play with an embarrassed smile. It's one of the most iconic LCS clips of all time, for all the wrong reasons!
1. Yell0wstaR Denies The Penta
Scumbag Yell0wstaR. As the most mature and reserved member of the undefeated Fnatic roster, the team captain was consistently the leader keeping the team's talent in check and focussed. During the 2015 League of Legends World Championship, just for a single moment, Yell0w decided to let his hair down. With AD Carry Rekkles on the hunt for a Worlds Pentakill, Yell0w leapt into action, flashing and jumping forwards to steal the kill away at the last moment in hilarious fashion.
