Just for a second, I’d like to entertain the fantasy that Team SoloMid could legitimately sign Michael “Imaqtpie” Santana as their replacement AD Carry for the 2017 Spring Split. It’s unfeasible, of course, but people were saying the same thing about Donald Trump becoming President this time last year – look where we are now.
Indeed, stranger roster swaps have transpired in the turbulent world of professional League of Legends, than the prospect of a former North American pro joining the region’s favourite team for a single split. Rewind a year to the day and you’d be laughed out of the room for suggesting Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng would throw his beloved Counter Logic Gaming jersey in the trash and join Team SoloMid…
With the announcement that TSM AD Carry, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng will take a hiatus from the game for the duration of the NA LCS Spring Split, Imaqtpie’s name was immediately thrown into the goblet of fire as a potential replacement – admittedly, largely fuelled by the Twitch streamer himself…
@Imaqtpielol welcome to the squad mr. Santana

Yes, it’s obviously a joke, but would Imaqtpie really be the worst choice for Team SoloMid?
Doublelift has clearly outlined his intentions to return for the all important Summer Split, a motivation that perfectly compliments Qtpie’s own personal ambitions. Let’s make no mistake, Imaqtpie is one of Twitch’s most popular streamers, comfortably clearing $2million a year with his overwhelmingly popular channel – there’s no way he’s going to give that up on a long term basis.
Santana has stated he still harbours a competitive drive and a will to win and that, provided with the opportunity to fulfil these ambitions, he would be interested in rejoining the professional scene. Given the short term nature of Qtpie’s goals and the short term nature of the role on offer, the fit seems like a match made in heaven. The leader of the Big Dick Club can certainly afford a cut in his income in order to achieve his dream of winning the NA LCS.
Team SoloMid’s mid laner, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg certainly rates Santana’s abilities very highly…
Ok, so maybe not top four in the world, but Imaqtpie still holds the skill level of a top tier North American AD Carry. For all the talk of circuit points, every pro player and fan appreciates the Spring Split means very little, it’s hardly as if TSM would be putting their place at Worlds in jeopardy if everything goes wrong… remember the disastrous Yellowstar split?
From a business perspective, QTpie would bring with him a wealth of fans and the money he could rake in for the TSM streaming brand would be astronomical. Considering that the Spring Split is essentially a mockery of sponsorship exposure, Team SoloMid really have nothing to lose in signing Michael “Imaqtpie” Santana, but everything to gain!
