Nico Rosberg has been reflecting on how generous he was at the Monaco Grand Prix, when he allowed Hamilton to pass whilst he wrestled with brake gremlins that the Mercedes team still can’t explain.
Rosberg was asked to move aside and let Hamilton through, and he reacted to the call straight away. If he hadn’t, Ricciardo would have definitely come out of the pits ahead of Hamilton later in the race. After the Grand Prix, Rosberg reflected on the team order he was given.
“Letting Lewis through was tough but it was an easy decision because it was the only thing to do at the time.”
“It was the right thing to do and not something I’ll think about in the sure, that’s part of the championship battle and it could have also been the other way around. It was a difficult race, for sure, but that doesn’t make me lose more morale. Some days are like that, it wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last.”
Rosberg still has the gap at the top, but the gap is slowly eroding away now Hamilton has found his form again. The Canadian GP has always suited Lewis Hamilton and a Canadian lucky-charm might be there to spur him on, as it’s speculated that his new number one cheerleader, Justin Bieber, will be present.
The Mercedes brake issue from Monaco will be haunting their minds though, especially after what happened in 2014 at the Canadian GP. Hamilton had to retire due to a KERS failure that ruined his rear brakes. Rosberg ended up handing the victory to Ricciardo, and limped home in 2nd. It’s one of the toughest circuits on brakes, so watch out for overheating and braking issues throughout the weekend.
