Fernando Alonso and his manager Flavio Briatore go way back. It was Briatore’s stewardship at Renault that helped Alonso win two-world championships nearly a decade ago. A recent admission from the Spaniard’s manager has prompted irritation for the driver though.

Alonso is yet to finish on the podium since leaving Ferrari two-years ago, and he’s convinced that he can help turn McLaren into winners again. He recently said,
“I want to win everything l want to do in life. I count the days to the next grand prix and the next opportunity. No doubt there are frustrations. I am on top of everyone to make sure they are not relaxed and they don’t take too many holidays because I don’t take holidays.”

His move to Mclaren still receives criticism, even his own manager has let slip of his regrets. Disgraced race-fixer and chubby Einstein impersonator Flavio Briatore recently confessed that it was “his fault” for convincing Alonso to leave Ferrari.

Although McLaren are slowly recovering, they still find themselves 7th in the constructors standings. It hasn’t been plain sailing and Alonso responded to his manager’s lack of determination with,
“I don’t know why he said that. He was one of the people who persuaded me to join the project. But hopefully we can give him some satisfaction next year. He’s definitely sad for the performance that the team shows after convincing him as well of joining the project.”

So Briatore is full of sh*t and is probably trying to save face, leaving his driver out to dry in the process. That’s pretty low for a guy on the thin ice of a second-chance…
Meanwhile, Alonso has admitted that his only regret is his inability to add to his two world titles, although the driver admits that he is lucky to already have the plaudits he’s got. He said,
“I have been lucky to win two world titles. There are people who are very talented who have never had the opportunity.
“I was on the track parade with Nico [Hulkenberg, who was] on the front row in Austria and he was hoping for his first podium. He is a super-talented driver so l cannot be frustrated when l don’t win this or achieve that.”
