Honda rider Marc Marquez insists that he was correct to run the standard construction hard front despite being off the pace in Misano and finishing 4th.
A much desired victory! Thanks to my team, family, friends and fans!! 💪🏻😀#SanMarinoGP pic.twitter.com/p0AWiOBCgg

His lead at the top has reduced to 43 points after Valentino Rossi rode to 2nd place on the new medium front. Marquez admits that he wasn’t able to extract the same level of performance from the other tyre compounds as his nearest rivals and said,
“It was a completely different choice of the others, but the main problem was during the weekend. With the new tyre that Michelin brought here, I wasn’t able to use it. I was struggling a lot, I wasn’t able to find the best feeling during the weekend.
The [hard] tyre was the correct option for me. But for some reason, my rhythm was really similar to what I had in FP4, but the others were able to be even faster, especially Dani.”

His team-mate Dani Pedrosa had a great race and became the record-breaking 8th different winner of the previous 8 races. He overtook Valentino Rossi for the lead with 12 laps remaining and managed to keep the Italian at bay with a 2.8s gap at the finish.
Pedrosa ran the new soft front and his victory allowed him to appreciate the diversity at the front.
“I’ve never seen something like this ever before with so many changes in the front. Now we need to keep our feet on the ground and focus on the next race and try to achieve the same level of performance.”
