Force India are the third team to confirm a date for their 2017 launch following Mercedes and Ferrari’s announcements.
Force India plan to unveil its 2017 Formula One car at Silverstone Circuit on February 22nd. This is a day before Mercedes release the beast at the same location. Ferrari are running their 2017 car at Fiorana for the first time on February 24th.
Force India had their best season to date in 2016 with 4th in the Constructors. The team have found vital tenths more rapidly since gaining access to Toyota’s wind tunnel in Cologne since 2015.
The challenge of the new aero era is something that technical chief Bob Fernley is looking forward to, he said,
“This will be the first new generation car that we’re producing using a 60% windtunnel model.
If you go back through the years, first off all there were 50% models initially done in Brackley, subsequently done at Toyota.
The car is the first model we’ve done which has actually benefited from a 60% model in itself.
For us it’s a good opportunity to have that 60% car on a level playing field.
Obviously it’s not perfectly level, because the other teams have better windtunnel capabilities than we do, but it’s closer than it’s ever been before and it’s a challenge that we’re really quite relishing.”

Given the unstable transition in technical regulations, pre-season testing is more anticipated than in previous seasons. The idea behind the freedom on Aerodynamic solutions will hopefully see differing solutions on each car, the launches will reveal quite how drastic these differences will be.
