MotoGP mainstay Jorge Lorenzo has made waves recently with statements regarding his Ducati team placement. Could the end be in sight for Lorenzo, or is he just fanning the flames?
Lorenzo’s jump to Ducati is so recent, and yet some of the newly-red-blooded racer’s recent words have hinted that Lorenzo is eyeing the potential end of his MotoGP career.
“I signed with Ducati to finish my career here, although you never know what’s going to happen in life, let alone in racing… but my intention is to retire as a Ducatista and, if possible, as a legend.” – Jorge Lorenzo
Hopping on the Ducati wagon will certainly give Lorenzo the breathing room he desperately needed when he shared the same garage as Rossi. Love him or hate him, the Italian’s worth to Yamaha is undeniable. Lorenzo will the first one to tell you:
“I understand the importance Rossi has for Yamaha, for everything he has given to them, for his victories, his titles, and the relevance a character like him has on marketing. It’s normal for a manufacturer like Yamaha to focus on him.” – Jorge Lorenzo
Although Rossi and Lorenzo parted ways amicably with a handshake (and a win of Lorenzo), his new teammate Andrea Dovizioso has openly welcomed the Ducati newcomer.
“Scared? No, I’m excited. For sure, it will be a big challenge and it will be very difficult, because I know very well Jorge.” – Andrea Dovizioso

Dovizioso’s admiration for his new teammate seems to be so profound that he doesn’t even mind the insane pay-gap between the two of them. Here’s his response after he was asked:
“About the salary, there is a big difference, but I don’t think the difference is the reality on the track. He won a lot of titles, and to have him in Ducati is quite normal to spare that money. From my side, I can say it’s normal to spend that money to have Jorge at Ducati.” – Andrea Dovizioso
It’ll be quite the shift to such a boldly candid teammate, but if there’s anything Andrea has proved over the last several years, it’s that it really is all about the race for him.
