Bernie Ecclestone has been keen to squash rumors that he will be starting up a rival Motorsport to Formula One as speculation weighs on what’s next for the former CEO.

Few individuals – if any – have had the dramatic impact and influence over a single sport such as he did. Love him or hate him, the man has had a say in the choices and direction of F1 for nearly five decades. Bernie’s parting words have reflected that of someone who knew his time was coming to a close – and who wanted what was best for his baby.
Though, some of you fine folks out there seem to think the opposite. Going so far as to say that he’s got plans to build up another Motorsport to challenge F1.

Well, straight from the craggy horse’s mouth – dat shit ain’t happenin’:
“I wish to clear up the rumors that I am starting a series to compete against the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. I have built the Championship over the last near-50 years, which is something I am proud of, and the last thing I want is to see it damaged.
The new owner of the company will be able to carry out the administration of the company in a different way to the way I had, which was to produce financial results for the shareholders, the normal actions of a chief executive. This, I have done for the different shareholders over the last years and also when I owned 100 percent of the company.
“I would have loved the luxury of what Chase Carey, the CEO, is able to do. I hope the F1 supporters appreciate this as Chase intends to put money back into the sport.” – Bernie Ecclestone

For someone who gets such a bad reputation from some F1 fans, you can’t help but admire the man’s integrity and love for what he’s built. Sure, it’s not perfect, but we wouldn’t have the modern without him. We’ll miss ya, Bernie.
