Ferrari could be the first team to take up Liberty Media’s offer regarding buying shares in the sport at a slight discount. Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne has called for Liberty Media to clarify their long-term plans given that shares F1 team’s buy cannot be resold for another 10-years.

Ferrari are the biggest brand in the sport, a global following that has developed over the years in-part because of the team’s successes and participation in F1. Marchionne said,
“We will discuss it with the new owners. It is not a financial issue. It would be unwise to invest without having clarity about what will happen after 2020 and what Ferrari could get from its investment in Formula One.
Once we have this clarity, I think it will be much easier to decide if we want to participate in this venture. I expect that the sport in general will do better, because Liberty and Chase Carey know the entertainment world and know very well how to make F1 even more popular. The Scuderia will do its part in this.”

Ferrari have been quiet over the winter after another season of disappointment. 11 podiums over the season for Sebastien Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, they are in this game to win races and that will be the ambition for next season.
It can’t be taken for granted that Mercedes will walk away with both titles again. Unlike previous years, the running order at the start of the season has a greater scope to change later on with the lift on engine development.
Most of the talk has surrounded Red Bull and Mercedes with faith in Ferrari collectively waning again, but the Italian team have the potential to challenge for both titles. For one, their drivers aren’t to be underestimated.
