A legit source has just allegedly released images of McLaren’s 2017 challenger. A digital studio partner that has collaborated with the Woking-based team for eight years are the source of the leak.
Is this the McLaren MCL32?
Obviously, McLaren have strongly denied that these are images of their car, but the source seems an odd place for a non-legitimate leak to occur. The source in question has ties with the team since 2009. It could be a hoax, a clever one that tries to confirm that orange is the new grey.
Eric Boullier has confirmed a colour change, which matches the images above and also outlined Honda’s targets. He said,
“You will see a change in the colour. Wait a few days and you’ll find out (what).
We could be the outsider, the surprise of the season. Honda is working well on the engines and of those who could compete for the title alongside Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, we could be there as well.”

Ex-F1 driver David Coulthard chimed in with the belief that McLaren has done something drastic with the chassis, which again, aligns with the images that have been leaked. The Scottish driver said,
“McLaren may have done something special with the chassis. But we’ll have to see where the Honda engine is.
McLaren lost a lot of talent in these years, but I think they’ve kept a lot as well. The fundamental problem they’ve had has been Honda’s engine.”
– David Coulthard

If these are genuine images, then the McLaren at least looks like it is truly a thing of beauty and foreshadows what we can assume to be very aggressive looking designs up and down the grid. It’s good to see Formula 1 cars looking really mean again.
