Mercedes Driver Lewis Hamilton comments on his working relationship with newcomer Valterri Bottas – it’s all work and no play.
After a tumultuous relationship with former Mercedes driver and 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg, it appears that Lewis Hamilton is finding himself in a much better situation with his current teammate Valtteri Bottas. The Finn was tapped as a one-year replacement to fill the gap that Rosberg had made with his shocking and sudden retirement from Formula One at the summation of the last season.
Curiosity has surrounded the new duo since Valtteri’s pick was announced, and speculation regarding their working relationship has abounded – and it’s safe to say that it’s all working out fine in pre-season:
“What I so far like about working with Valtteri is that it is all to do with the track – what we do on the circuit – and not outside.
There are no games – there is complete transparency. I like that. I feel we already have a better working relationship than I ever had with any team-mate I had before.
He wants to do the best thing that he can in his first year with the team – and with me being here for quite a while now, I want to deliver and make sure that I give as much information so that he will learn.
And we do our talking on the track.” – Lewis Hamilton

It’s no secret that the Hamilton/Rosberg rivalry made it difficult for Mercedes at times. However, with Rosberg’s sudden departure and an empty gap left in his wake, Hamilton has catapulted back into being Mercedes’ golden boy. While the distinction is absolutely earned, it will be interesting too see the dynamics between the drivers plays out over the season.
