This weekend, the tension mounts as NASCAR’s finest hit the Las Vegas Motor Speedway – the home circuit of reigning champion Jimmie Johnson.
Brad Keselowski atoned for his disappointing finish of 27th in the Daytona 500 with victory in Sunday’s Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500.
What has also been noticeable in the past two races is the improved performance of Ford cars across the field. Traditionally, Chevrolet has dominated the scene – although Toyota were top dogs last year – and Ford has been little more than a bit player.
On early evidence, this will not be the case in 2017, as this recap of Sunday’s race shows.
When considering Kobalt 400 Fantasy picks, race fans should remember that Las Vegas demands more than mere driving skill. Any crew which values its reputation will need to have two different setups planned, for the early and late stages of the race. Constant technical work is also required, in order to negotiate the corners of Las Vegas.
This weekend’s Kobalt 400 Fantasy picks are relatively straightforward. Though the new points system can cause the performance of many drivers to fluctuate, nobody can have any compunction about selecting the men we have picked to lead the line.
Kobalt 400 Fantasy Picks – GROUP A
After winning at one of his weakest tracks on Sunday, Brad Keselowski looks primed to win this weekend at one of his strongest. He has won on two of his last three visits to Las Vegas, and his confidence has surely never been higher.
Picking a Group A reserve is a tough call, but after performing so well in recent weeks, the spotlight turns firmly on drivers of Ford cars.
With that noted, Joey Logano is an absolute must. The Penske driver has started this season where he left off in 2016.
Kurt Busch is an obvious starter. He is on a hot streak and currently occupies second place in the overall standings. Meanwhile, Trevor Bayne’s stock has risen noticeably, after a decent performance on Sunday, which saw him narrowly miss out on a top ten berth.
Chase Elliott, in a Chevrolet, is also a tempting starter. However, it may be wise to use him sparingly until he comes fully into the powers that his natural talent promises.
