Tanner Foust is a name not many people might have heard of. Well one thing you should know is he one of the pioneers of Rallycross, and one of the biggest stars of the sport as well.
It’s not often someone with a biology degree ends up doing rallycross, but that’s exactly what Foust has done. He grew up in Scotland where he discovered what would be his passion, rallying. He learned to drive on the twisty country roads, preparing him well for his career before earning his degree at the University of Colorado. Long summers were spent at racetracks, taking on mechanic work and driver coaching as well before becoming a full time professional in 2003.
Foust has been one of the busiest drivers in the USA since that year and is one of the best stunt drivers in the business. He has been a stunt driver for many films and TV shows, including The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift, Iron Man 2, Need For Speed (film) and The Dukes of Hazzard…and that’s just the beginning of what he’s done! Foust has set many world records with Hot Wheels and Top Gear USA and is the most decorated driver in the X Games history with 9 medals. His career has not just been limited to stunt driving however, as the rallying skills he learnt in the hills of Scotland has allowed his professional racing career to flourish.
Along with his medals for rallying at the X Games, he has 13 Global RallyCross races, taken 29 podiums and is a two time champion in the series, winning the title in 2011 and 2012. He also has another claim to fame. He is currently the only driver outside of Europe to have won a round of the World RallyCross Championship, winning the World RX of Finland back in 2014. Foust was also one of the hosts of the USA’s version of Top Gear, and featured in the UK version as he helped James May prepared for a wildcard entry in a rallycross race. He has also participated in the Race of Champions alongside the likes of Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel, something he calls an absolute privilege. Make no mistake, Foust is one of the best rally drivers of this generation.
