The British Open pairings got released today and they are just splendid. Why, you might ask? Well, because the R&A have cleverly paired three of golf’s best divorced golfers together for the first two rounds at St. Andrews.
To call it a work of art would be an understatement.
John Daly, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Jason Dufner tee off at 7.50am Thursday with 6 divorces between them and golf bags full of cigars, cigarettes and whatever else. While they are unlikely to attract a strong female contingent, they are without doubt this year’s most unique pairing.
Daly, the notably womanizer, drinker, and two-time major winner that has won the hearts of the American people since he burst onto the scene with his PGA Championship win in 1991, will be looking to add a second British Open title at his favorite course in which he won so famously twenty years ago.
Jimenez finds himself in better form and will fancy his chances against a younger field. Spurred on a by a recent string of good results on the Champions Tour, Jimenez is one of the best outsider bets at this year’s British Open.
Meanwhile, Jason Dufner is coming off a miserable year on and off the course. Having struggled to find form early in 2015, he has also endured a painful divorce from sweetheart Amanda Dufner, who has been linked to Tiger Woods in recent weeks.
