There’s some sort of negative karma surrounding Adam Scott and the British Open. The Aussie has finished in the top five in each of the last three Open Championships, and was once again making a move on Monday at St. Andrews.
Scott started the day at 9-under par, three shots off the lead. During the final round, Scott caught fire, with birdies on six of the first 10 holes. At 15-under par he had a share of the lead.
Then, as is often the case with Scott, his putter failed him. After a bogey on 14, Scott had this tap in put for par on 15.
You can hear the shock in what sounded like ESPN announcer Curtis Strange’s voice. The back-to-back bogeys for Scott dropped him back to 13-under par through 15, and he completely fell apart after that. He bogeyed 17 and doubled on 18 to finish 1-under for the round and 10-under for the championship.
