Ireland’s Shane Lowry held off the challenge of three major champions to claim the biggest victory of his career in brilliant fashion in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Akron, Ohio, on Sunday.
The Irishman scored an impressive round of 66 in the final round to finish of 11 under par.
With a flourish of birdies on the closing holes, Lowry fought off the strong competition from Watson, Rose and Furyk.
Whilst Shane played some incredible golf he admitted that he had some Irish luck on his side.
“It’s hard to believe but I played good today,” Lowry told Sky Sports 4. “I was quite nervous out there towards the end but made a lot of good decisions, hit the ball well and got a bit of luck as well which was nice.”
Our favorite bit of news from this story is the reaction from the Irish fans at Shane’s local club…
