Keeping It Classy, McIlroy And Woods Congratulate Jason Day

Jason Day made history this week winning his first Major Championship, it has been a long time coming for Day and he received warranted congratulations from some of the best.

Jason Day finally won his first major at the 2015 US PGA Championship! In the process, he also broke a record with his 20-under score, the lowest score carded at any major.

The previous best score at a major, of course, was 19-under, which belonged Tiger Woods in the 2000 British Open.

Woods who missed the cut (surprise, surprise) congratulated Day on his performance.

Some pretty interesting replies to this tweet from Tiger, lots of fans calling on him to retire after another very average performance at a major.

Rory McIlroy who was back after his ankle injury, could only manage 9-under leaving him in 17th position. With Spieth taking the second spot with 17-under it has bumped Rory off his number 1 world ranking spot.

Taking like the champ that he is, Rory congratulated both the players with this classy tweet.

Speaking to the media after the tournament, McIlroy admitted Spieth fully deserved to replace him as world No.1.

“Honestly the way Jordan has been playing and the way I haven’t played much this year – I think that was only my 12th or 13th event – it’s very deservedly so,” said McIlroy, who had not played since the US Open in June after rupturing an ankle ligament playing football with friends on 4 July.

“Winning two majors, winning a couple of other times this year, had a chance at the Open, had a chance today. I’d be the first one to congratulate him because I know the golf you have to play to get to that spot, and it has been impressive this year.”
