ESPN Loves Golf Again, Gives More Airtime Thanks To Spieth, Day & McIlroy

If you’ve noticed a ridiculous amount of golf on SportsCenter’s highlight show, you’re not alone. In fact, golf is taking up a major part of the show thanks to golf’s new superpowers Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy. Yes, they have filled the shoes of Tiger Woods and no, the game isn’t in trouble anymore.

Helped by golf addict Rob King, SportsCenter’s managing editor, golf is now on the mobile screens of America’s favorite sports show.

“It’s really simply a reaction to people’s interest,” explained Scott Van Pelt, current host of SportsCenter at 11pm, who kicks off one-man version of SportsCenter at midnight. It begins on  September 7th.

“The people out there winning such as Jason Day and Jordan Spieth are filling the Tiger vacuum quite nicely.”

Golf’s exciting new blood has made for some of the most fascinating television this year. All four majors featured Jordan Spieth or Jason Day gunning for victory – with the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship involving tense back nine battles.
