Don’t fall for Bubba Watson’s Southern charm. He’s got a nasty side like no other player in the game.
1. He thinks gay people are sinners
Bubba Watson told reporters after holding the 36-hole lead at the 2014 Masters that gay people are sinners, when asked about Jason Collins revealing his homosexuality.
“The Bible says you’re not supposed to be gay, and so I never downed Jason,” Watson told Golfweek, referring to his tweet this week. It’s just my belief system on the Bible says you can’t be gay. That’s a sin. So somebody living in sin I believe to be wrong.”
2. He treats the media like second-class citizens
The low point came at the 2011 French Open when, apparently homesick, Bubba acted like a prima donna the whole week. He refused simple requests for interviews and one Sky Sports reporter asked him to shoot a head shot during the informality of Wednesday’s Pro-Am.
“See my manager,” Watson said.
That week, Watson also refused to share a courtesy car from his hotel to the course with a fellow player, demanding that he is too important for ride sharing.
3. He treats his caddie like a third-class citizen
4. He is dumb, uncultured and f***ing annoying
Q. Did you like Paris?
BUBBA WATSON: I don’t know the names of all the things, the big tower, Eiffel Tower, an arch, whatever that — I rode around in a circle. And then what’s that — it starts with an L, Louvre, something like that. One of those. And then we just went around to different shops, just kind of walked down the streets and went to different shops and just to see if there was anything we wanted to buy. Just kind of looked around and kind of road around and really that’s it, just to see stuff that we don’t get to see normal.
5. He mentions religion way too much
Bubba Watson makes no secret of mentioning God, Jesus or the Bible in many of his interviews and social media posts. When people tell him “Your God Tweets are lame,” Watson responds with creepy statements such as “I will pray for u and ur family.”
One of Watson’s tweets read: God made everything & saved us from our sins & gives us hope and gives us eternal life! #Godisgood
“Hebrews 13:6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?”
