Find out why Jordan Spieth and Jason Day have made Rory McIlroy hungry

For some sweet championship wins, of course. What were you thinking? Anyway, with Jordan Spieth in his number 1 spot and Jason Day taking names everywhere, Rory McIlroy is getting quite restless. In an interview with BBC Sport, he said, “It’s motivating to see what these guys are doing. You want to go out and work harder, you want to hit more balls, and try to keep getting better.”

This year hasn’t been Rory’s best. He was fourth behind Spieth at the Masters Championship and was number nine at the US Open. Thanks to his now infamous injury, he had to skip out on the Open Championship. He’s back in the game, but still hasn’t regained his mojo. He finished 11 shots behind Day at the US PGA Championship. None of this has dampened his morale though, “It has definitely given me that sense of hunger again.”

So, what will he do differently next year to vanquish the competition? “I, for sure, won’t be playing any football in the middle of the season again. I’ll still want to play football in the off season and enjoy my time with my friends as that’s what we all do, but maybe be a little more careful in the middle of the golf season.”

Good call.
