Take one cheeky Rory McIlroy, add a bit of a Paul Casey and you have yourself the next big thing in golf. Watch out for one Matt Fitzpatrick, the new amateur extraordinaire and their possible lovechild. The 2013 US Amateur champion earned his first professional win at the British Masters last week and is now ranked 59th in the world. At the tender age of 21, he is now the youngest player to make it inside the hallowed halls of the top 100.
Still not impressed? He is also one of only two players on the European tour to be in both top 10’s for greens in regulation and fairways hit in 2015, add that to his 287 yard driving average and you have a very promising prospect.
Sheffield born and bred Matt Fitzpatrick cheers for the home football team (Sheffield United) and plans on doing big things with his $755,000 prize money, like upgrading his four-year old Ford Mondeo for an Ascari A10. He may resemble McIlroy and Casey, but he doesn’t quite match their impressive physiques yet, being 5’10” weighing in at just 155 pounds. Hopefully, he bulks up in time for the next Ryder Cup in September, which he is very much in the pickings for.
