Russell Knox is a newcomer to the tour that you will not soon forget!
This weekend in Shanghai, Knox won the WGC-HSBC Champions, making him the first player to win a World Golf Championship in his debut since the series began in 1999. He beat the likes of Johnson, McIlroy, and Fowler!
Knox grew up in Scotland, where he competed for his country at a youth tournament and where he saw Rory McIlroy for the first time. He met his wife at Marsh Landing Country Club after moving to Florida for school, where she was the tennis pro and he was the cart boy. He attended the small school of Jacksonville University and became the number 1 golfer on the team, playing every tournament.
”The last time I checked, if you’re not playing in tournaments, you’re not improving.”
And improve he did!
”I don’t know if I ever would have guessed I would have been on the PGA Tour, winning a huge tournament like this,” Knox said. ”But for some bizarre reason, ever since I was kid, I always felt in my bones that I was going to be a professional.”
You can bet we’ll be seeing a lot more of Knox in the near future.
