Golfers come in all shapes and sizes; here is a look at Golf’s record breaking dimensions.
Is it wrong to write an article about the physical appearance of professional athletes? Probably yes. These are people who work tirelessly to compete at the highest level and here I am on a keyboard analysing their BMI.
Type the first letter of tallest, shortest and heaviest into any search engine and the results are a Sociologist’s Christmas. ‘H’ doesn’t bring up words like ‘help’, ‘how’ or even ‘heart’, think more ‘heaviest football player’, ‘heaviest child’ and ‘heaviest dog’. Even our heart, that sort of important organ in our body, is trumped by William ‘The Fridge’ Perry and his incalculable waist size. Fine by me.
It may surprise you that the tallest golfer to ever win on the PGA TOUR was just 6 ft 7, it’s possible you even know a guy that tall who plays golf. Phil Blackmar (Cream jumper) won 3 times on the tour between 1985 and 1997 and his record tells you a lot about the ideal build for swinging a club.
A quick look at the average height of the top 10 major winners of all time and you wouldn’t believe me when I told you. Can you guess what it is? Here’s a clue, Tiger Woods is the tallest on the list at 6ft 1 .

But even at a shade over 5 foot, Fujikawa wouldn’t look out of place standing next to some legends of the game.
The seven-time major winner, Gene Sarazen, barely stood at 5ft 5 and Gary Player’s modest build of 5ft 6 is a hallmark of his personality.
Tracking this one down was the hardest of the three. You can’t lie about your height but it would appear that weight is a slightly more subjective measurement. Guy Boros stands at 6ft and weighs in at 275 pounds (125 kg).
Again this was surprising, I see guys hanging off the side of golf carts who weigh more, but then again if you’re not far behind the weight of a lineman you’re not going to succeed at a sport that requires you to walk five miles. Guy has won once on the PGA TOUR, earning $2.75 million in a career spanning 25 years. He would probably tell me to shove this paragraph up my fat as…
