- Paige Spiranac misses cut at Dubai Ladies Masters.
- Pressure from peers is a huge reason for loss.
Paige Spiranac walked off the 18th green at the 2015 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, her first professional tournament, in tears. Her score of 79, seven-over par, was not good enough to make the cut and move on to the final round.
She commented afterwards saying that “a bar of soap could have probably played better,” a reference to a pre-tournament quote from World Golf Hall of Famer Laura Davies.
“It was just a tough week for me, a lot of stress,” Spiranac managed, trying to see a silver lining. “It was a great learning experience for me, I’m going to take a lot from it. I think I’m upset because it’s just been so much stress on me and a lot of pressure.
“I was invited here and wanted to prove it was for reasons other than just my social media.”
This 22 year old stepped out of her comfort zone, left the United States for the first time, and competed in her first professional tournament via sponsored invitation. No one else can say they were invited to play professional golf because of the amount of followers they have on Instagram. Many can critique her for that, and say she had no reason for being there in the first place, but I think that’s a feat that she should be proud of!
Who are we to criticize someone for being beautiful, talented, and thrusted into the limelight. Just because she missed the cut doesn’t mean she’s a bad golfer. She had so much pressure and stress to deal with that more than half the world never has to experience. People can be such assholes sometimes, and this girl has been nothing but gracious and forthcoming with her followers.
Most people in interviews, “feeling confident and ready.” Me in interviews, “I’m so nervous that I’m going to throw up and cry” ????????

“I’m definitely not going to look at my phone for a while, probably take a break from social media to step away and re-evaluate everything,” she said, as she tried to lighten the mood a little. “At the moment, the clubs are going in the water.”
Paige should hold her head high, get herself some new clubs, and try again. Professionals miss the cut all the time, and even Jordan, #1 in the world right now, has missed cuts before.
Stay golden, Paige. F*ck the haters.
