Mike Ditka Suggests Kids Should Play Golf Over Football In Shocking Statement

Mike Ditka is the poster boy for anything football related. He is one of two people to ever win an NFL title as a player, an assistant coach, and a head coach. Ditka is also the only individual in modern NFL history to win a championship with the same team as a player and as a head coach.

This is why it came as a shock when Ditka suggested kids try golf over football when discussing the whole concussion debate.

“People ask me the question. I would never discourage my son from playing football or baseball or anything else, but I would probably say, ‘Hey, listen, you ought to try golf,'” Ditka said. “Seriously. And I think that’s what’s going to happen to a degree. And that’s just the way it’s going to be.”

America prides itself on its sports. We are competitive, strong, and take life by the horns. What people don’t realize about golf is that it is just as much a sport as football is. Yes it may be less grueling on a persons body, which i’m sure is a part of why Ditka made that statement, but it is just as much if not more an inner battle with yourself to succeed. There are no refs to keep you in line, it is just you and the ball. Not to mention the core values that come with golf, other than competitiveness which all sports have, but respect, honesty, integrity, responsibility, just to name a few.

Tiger commented similarly by saying, “What I love and appreciate the most about playing golf is the internal struggle. The fact that the ball is not moving; it’s just looking at you and laughing at you. You have to make it move 400 yards in let’s say four shots, and that to me is without a doubt one of the toughest mental struggles there is in sports. There are more physically demanding sports, obviously, but the mental task of golf is so hard. It is basically a physical chess match.”

Let’s go kids, future generation. Let’s golf.
