- The world number three saw in the New Year with a bottle of Château Latour.
- The vineyard is legendary amongst wine critics.

We all do it on New Year. It’s the time to be financially irresponsible before you commit to hopelessly ambitious New Year resolutions. Rory took this a step further when he decided to order a a $1,000 bottle of wine as the countdown approached.

Rory was celebrating with his fiancee, Erica Stoll, as the two shared dinner at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. The castle recently underwent a €45 million renovation and now operates as a luxury getaway.

The bottle of wine costs as much as $1,000 and is described as providing the drinker with a “Leathery tobacco flavour, with dark cherry undertones and a nicely tannic beautiful elegant finish.” according to wine connoisseur, Petrus Dystus.
Because Rory would have made the purchase from their cellar you can guarantee he paid more than the trade price.
A bit of research will tell you the the 1966 vintage is rated unfavourably compared with other years. Vivino give it a 4.5 star rating, an indication that age means nothing when this bottle is compared with the 2001 label, which carries a 4.8 rating and can be bought for half the price. So you’re a bitter of poser Ror!
Let’s hope he had it with beef, lamb or poultry otherwise its subtlety might not be fully realised. Lol.
