- The European golfing community mourn the passing of Christy O’Connor Jnr.
- The Irishman passed away suddenly in Spain at the age of 67.
For many the name Christy O’Connor will mean very little. The Irishman played in two Ryder Cups and won 4 European Tour titles followed by a successful career on the senior tour. The words of Irish President Michael D Higgins perfectly sum up why O’Connor’s passing has been treated with such sadness; “We will miss his warm personality, his generosity and his great resilience of spirit.”
Irish golfer, Shane Lowry, paid his respects to the popular figure.
Very sad news today about Christy O’Connor Jnr. An absolute legend of Irish golf. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

O’Connor will probably be best remembered for hitting a 2-iron within four feet to beat Fred Couples and help Europe win the 1989 Ryder Cup. In case you forgot what a 1980’s 2-iron looks like…
Here’s the shot that made Christy a Ryder Cup legend.
