Monster Drives Are In Abundance At The Hyundai TOC

Blue skies, green fairways, and lack of wind provided the secret formula for some amazing golf at the first tournament of the year this Thursday.

Monster drives were in abundance during the first round. Dustin Johnson owned six of the longest drives (which is not surprising), including 396 yards at the par-4 seventh, 397 at the par-4 12th, 351 at the par-5 15th and 397 at the par-4 17th.

Bubba Watson, with his new but still pink driver, had the longest drives at Nos. 13 and 14. Those holes are a bit shorter, hitting 292 and 282, respectively. Justin Thomas killed the longest drives at the fourth (283) and fifth (298), but these holes hold players back from ripping the ball out of the park because they can easily trickle out of fairway if you’re not cautious.

Rickie Fowler went home that night with the furthest drive at the par-5 18th with 378 yards. J.B. Holmes had the biggest one at the par-4 sixth (392), and Brooks Koepka owned the longest drive at the par-4 first (377).

We wish we had some footage of DJ smashing the ball off the tee, but alas, we are left with a slo-mo Spieth swing. We’re not too mad about it.
