When Jose Mourinho took over Manchester United, big changes were expected of him and it seems he has no intention of disappointing. He’s had every intention of ridding the club of two particular players even before the deal was sealed and we have no reason to believe he won’t make good on his word. Apparently, he’s been telling executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward that he’s been thinking of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini as excess baggage for a while now.
This will actually be Mourinho’s second time selling Mata off since he handed the Spaniard over to the Devils as Chelsea captain in January 2014. At the time, he’d considered Mata surplus to his requirements and it seems not much has changed this time, seeing as Mata has not been consistently impressive during his stint with the club. We imagine Mata really hates him right now.
While things don’t seem quite as personal in Fellaini’s case, his similarly lackluster performance since his transfer from Everton is also earning him the axe. Mourinho’s already lined up replacements for the midfielder, eager to make his indelible mark on the Reds squad.
Whatever club Juan Mata joins this time, he’d better hope Jose Mourinho doesn’t have his eye on it.
