Well, that didn’t take long; Alex Teixeira is clearly already regretting selling his soul to the cash cow that is the Chinese Super League, and in turn sacrificing his reputation as a real footballer.
The then-Shakhtar Donetsk forward was subject to a bid from Liverpool in the January transfer window, but after the Reds rejected the Ukrainian’s counter-offer of a straight swap for Kolo Toure, Teixeira headed for China.
Less than a month after moving, Teixeira’s friend and former team-mate, Josef de Sou, has revealed that the Brazilian still pines for the Premier League and a move to Anfield.
He told Brazilian TV channel Esporte Interativo : “I spoke to Alex, and really, he said that things were well advanced [To go to Liverpool].”
“And then I talked to him again, when he signed for the club from China.
“And Alex, I can say that he was totally willing to go to the Premier League. And he still keeps that dream, from what he told me, in his heart.”
de Sou then went on to list the exact reasons as to why Teixeira won’t give up on his dream to run out on Merseyside playing for the Reds.
Alex Teixeira is not only a huge fan of Joe Allen the footballer – he once likened the midfielder to the perfect blend of Pogba and Pirlo – he is also highly complimentary about Joe Allen the fashion icon; Teixeira one day hopes to pick up some beard grooming tips from the Welshman.
Rumour has it, that the real reason Teixeira didn’t move to Anfield, was nothing to do with transfer fee, but in fact because the 26-year-old didn’t realise that Rickie Lambert no longer played for the club. However, upon realising that Balotelli is still a Reds player, Teixeira is hoping he can still fulfill his goal of playing alongside a bang average striker at Anfield.
Whether they know it or not, everyone harbours aspirations of playing in the same team as the footballing cult hero.
