This is what £180,000 a week gets you:
Every time he touched the ball, Raheem Sterling was passionately booed by the Liverpool fans that packed out Wembley for the League Cup Final.
The England ace left Anfield for Man City last summer in a much scrutinised £49m transfer, it’s unlikely red’s fans will ever forget his betrayal – particularly after he publically snubbed and criticised the club.
Sterling had the chance to silence those who jeered him during the League Cup final when gifted a chance to score by David Silva, but he put the ball well wide of Simon Mignolet’s post.
It would have put the game beyond Liverpool’s reach with City 1-0 up at the time. Jurgen Klopp’s side, within touching distance, kept chasing an equaliser, with Philippe Coutinho eventually making it 1-1 in the final 10 minutes.
Fortunately for Sterling, Willy Caballero came to City’s rescue and bailed them out with some formidable stops in the resulting penalty shoot-out.
