- Jordan Spieth is playing at the Riviera Country Club this week
- He told reporters how he admires tennis player’s passion for winning
Jordan Spieth is looking for his next win on Thursday in the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club. Spieth says Riviera is one of his favorite courses and has played it 30 times over, including a college championship game.
“It’s one of my favorites in the entire world. I was out yesterday and it’s just in spectacular shape,” he said.
His love for the Riviera Country Club was not all that Spieth talked to reporters about on Tuesday. He discussed his respect for the enduring hunger and consistency of Federer, Djokovic and other leaders of men’s tennis. They are an inspiration as he sets his own career path, trying to emulate their fervor for their sport.
“You can certainly take a lot from watching those guys and understanding that even when they were number one, it seemed like that almost fuelled them to want to work even harder, which you don’t necessarily see everywhere across the board in life,” Spieth added.
Spieth recognizes that in most sports, even golf, when a team or player gets to that number one spot, their is a sigh of relief and a natural breathing out. He does not see that in tennis and that is clearly why he wants to be like the players that keep breathing in as they reach the top.
Jordan Spieth may be young but he knows what he wants and seeing that intensity and passion in other athletes is only pushing him to stay on that leader board, all the way at the tippy top. With the Riviera Country Club being one of his favorite courses, we can expect a great tournament this week, hopefully with Spieth full speed ahead.
