Jason Day had a pep talk with Tiger Woods before this tournament and I think it has payed off. Day’s second shot of the Cadillac Championship reached the green on a 625 yard hole with an iron approach. He had to have hit that iron at least 200 yards, without even blinking an eye.

He looks pleased with himself and who wouldn’t be? He just put the pressure on his group to perform at the highest level, to create an exciting first tournament of the month.

Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy. “The Big Three”, as the golf world is calling them, have teed off together for the second time ever at the Cadillac Championship today.

It’s always exciting when top professionals are paired together at a tournament, but when it’s the world’s No. 1, 2, and 3, it’s a game changer. The expectations from everyone are higher and the pros feel the pressure to exceed those expectations, which is not always an easy task. It can either get in the players heads and bring them down or motivate them to be better than they are.

All three of these players have had a rough start this year.

Jason Day is playing less tournaments to put his family first, and has missed one cut out of three tournaments played.

Rory McIlroy made it to the top 25 twice and missed one cut out of four tournaments.

Jordan Spieth is the only one that has one a tournament out of the three this year, but he still missed one cut out of four tournaments. That win put him way ahead of either Day or McIlroy in the Fedex Cup standing.

Both Rory and Day prepared for the Cadillac Championship in some way, clearly feeling the pressure to perform better in the first tournament of a new month.

Rory is switching up his putting grip, using his left hand in the dominant placement, to hopefully improve his numbers on the green. Jason Day called up good friend Tiger Woods (lucky guy) for advice on how to get his gumption back, hoping to regain his end of the year successful push. You saw in the clip above that Day is putting it all out there.

Although Jordan hasn’t been as revealing about his preparation for this specific tournament, he has been spending early mornings on the putting green and has gone into this season with a new mentality all together. Just because he is on top at the moment, doesn’t mean he is relaxing any more than if he were in last place, he want’s to keep the pressure on to make sure nothing comes between him and his #1 spot.

You also have to think about all of the other players in the field that have been making a killing this year, proving many skeptical of The Big Three title.

Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson are all real contenders trying to take their rightful places on the pedestal. Golf is not like when Tiger Woods was in his prime, where no one could catch or even really compete with his talent. Now there are so many great players all competing for the same thing and all within reach.
