Want to know how truly mad this Premier League season is? Leicester City are officially a Champions League team next season and the overall reaction was along the lines of: “yeah, and?”. Not to Gary Lineker though.
The mammoth achievement by Claudio Ranieri’s side is merely a side dish to the main meal, a main meal that is so close to being brought over, the Premier League title.
When and where this Foxes fairytale bubble bursts remains to be seen but to those who predicted such a campaign for last season’s relegation-contenders, we salute you.
It appears that Leicester’s most famous – and annoyingly smug – fan, Gary Lineker, was one of those daring enough to dream this season. During one of those awkward post-match forced-banter conversations with Ranieri, after Leicester had just overcome West Ham 2-1 in the second game of their season, the former Leicester player suggested Ranieri could guide the Foxes to Europe!
“Thank you Gary Lineker but it’s not possible”
Tell you what, though, it’s a bloody shame that Leicester will finish in the bottom half next season after the heroics of this campaign.
