Liverpool received a huge boost with the news that Mamadou Sakho had been banned for 30 days by UEFA following the positive result to the defender’s drug test.
The France international’s ban has been timed perfectly for the Reds, as it means he was unable to fuck up Liverpool’s biggest game of the season against Villarreal in the Europa League – they did that easily enough without him.
Thankfully for Jurgen Klopp’s side, if they do negotiate themselves past the La Liga outfit, the Europa League final takes place 10 days before Sakho is available for selection again.
When Klopp was questioned over the absence of the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, the eccentric German said:
“It’s great news for the team. I’ve been wanting to drop Sakho for ages, but, I mean, you’ve seen those bulging eyes of his, yeah? They’re scary. And he’s a big fucker.
“Thankfully the podgy fool took those pills and the decision was made for me.”

Sakho’s ban will mean greater playing time for Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel, something which Klopp clearly hadn’t considered in amongst the euphoria of knowing that the haphazard Sakho wasn’t available for selection.
“Oh shit…yeah. I hadn’t thought of that.”
